DVDs are a great way to store old shows and movies that you might want to watch again. DVDs were also the most common way of purchasing new media for quite some time. Unfortunately, DVDs take up quite a bit of space, so it’s important to know how to store them properly.
If you’re looking for DVD storage ideas without cases, there are plenty of ways to store your DVD collection without taking up too much space. You can use DVD cases or even make a DVD case out of an old book.
You may want to place them inside plastic sleeves or boxes to keep them safe from dust and fingerprints. If you have room, you can also opt for a DVD storage box — these are often waterproof and come with separate compartments so that your DVDs don’t get damaged.

If you have a large DVD collection, even storing them in standard cases can take up more space than you’d like. There are plenty of alternatives for storing DVDs and keeping them safe. Here’s how to store your DVDs without cases.
1. Keep Them In Their Cases
You’ll probably want to pull out the paper inserts, but otherwise, keep your DVD collection in their plastic cases. If you organize them well enough, it won’t be too hard to find the movie you’re looking for. But if you’ve got quite a collection this may not be the most space-efficient solution.
2. Use a Digital Media Shelf
A digital media shelf is one of my favorite solutions for storing DVDs without cases because it’s so compact and easy to deal with. They typically hold about 100 movies and can fit on a bookshelf or be hung on the wall-like shelves. As an added bonus they are usually stackable so you can expand your movie collection as needed.
3. DVD Storage Bag
This bag is designed for holding DVDs, so it’s definitely a great option for storing your DVD collection without a case. The bag is made from a non-woven material with a zipper top and carries handles. It can hold up to 60 DVDs and is a great option for keeping your collection organized in one place.
4. DVD Storage Binder
This DVD storage option is one of the most popular. You can buy a binder that holds DVDs or make your own. I’ve never done this, but I have to believe it’s pretty easy:
All you need is a large three-ring binder and some plastic pages with holes in them meant for CDs or DVDs.
You can organize the DVDs however you want in the binder. There are dividers with pockets (like the ones above) that help keep things organized and make it easier to find what you’re looking for. Or you can just put them in randomly and hope for the best!
One of the nice things about this option is that you can store quite a few DVDs in one binder. And of course, you can easily add new ones as you get them. The only downside is that if you don’t use the plastic pages, it’s possible for your DVDs to get scratched from rubbing against each other.
5. Old Video Game Cases
If there is one thing that every home has at least one of, then it has got to be an old video game case. In fact, many people have dozens of them lying around because they never seem to throw anything out! To make use of these, simply remove the game and put your DVD in its place instead.
6. DVD Storage Shelves
If you don’t want to use cases for your DVDs, an easy solution is to buy a DVD storage shelf. There are many different types of shelves available such as wall shelves, bookcases, and towers. They are very affordable and easy to assemble.
Stack them on shelves
If you just stick your DVDs in one drawer, it’s easy to forget what movies you actually own when you want to watch something new. To keep track of them all, stack them up on some shelves so you can see what each one is and choose which ones to watch at a glance.
7. DVD Storage Drawers
Another option is a DVD storage drawer. These can be placed on the floor of a cupboard or in the corner of a room. They’re great for storing large amounts of DVDs and are really easy to use. However, they do take up a lot of space so they aren’t suitable for every home.
You can also buy drawers with wheels so they can be moved around easily if needed. I like this idea because it means that you don’t have to worry about keeping track of how many DVDs you have stored away!
8. DVD Storage Cabinets With Doors Or Locks
This type of cabinet is ideal if you don’t want anyone else to see what movies you own, or if you live in an area where there might be break-ins or theft from your home (or even just want some extra privacy from your family members).
9. DVD Racks
A DVD rack is a great way to store DVDs without cases. A rack takes up very little space and can make finding a certain DVD very easy. The racks come in different styles, colors, sizes, and prices. One side of the rack is usually curved slightly so that when you put in the DVD it will not fall out.
10. DVD Rotating Tower
Another option for storing your DVDs would be a rotating tower or cabinet with shelves for each DVD. These items are quite big, but they do hold a lot of DVDs as well as are sturdy enough to stand on their own or be placed on a table or dresser top.
In summary, DVD storage can be an issue if you have many DVDs. The cases are bulky and take up a lot of space. It is much easier to store DVDs without cases and can look very stylish too.
