Are Amana And Whirlpool The Same Company?
Amana and Whirlpool are common names in many households today. Are Amana and Whirlpool the same company? The short answer is yes. Let’s look into the details of why this is true, how the companies became one, and what makes Amana and Whirlpool products remain different while being owned by the same company.
Amana and Whirlpool are both appliance brands owned by the Whirlpool Corporation, which is one of the largest manufacturers of home appliances in the world. Whirlpool also owns several other home appliance brands such as Kitchen Aid, Maytag, Jenn-Air, and Roper.
So… Amana is a subsidiary of Whirlpool Corporation. but still carries its own distinct brand name. So Amana is a brand within a brand so speak.
When Did Whirlpool Buy Amana?
The company was sold to Whirlpool Corporation in 2006, after which it took on the name of its parent company. In fact, Amana had already been sold previously to Raytheon Manufacturing Company in 1965 and that was the beginning of a new era for the brand.
Raytheon faced competition from other top manufacturers at the time, including General Electric, Hotpoint, and Westinghouse.
The acquisition of Amana provided Raytheon with access to a high-quality product line that would allow it to compete effectively in the consumer appliance market. The partnership between Raytheon and Amana helped solidify both companies’ presence in the industry.
To this day, Whirlpool Corporation continues to run Amana as a separate division, while leveraging its parent company’s resources and global reach.
But Doesn’t Maytag Own Amana?
Acquired by Raytheon Manufacturing Company in 1965 and purchased by Goodman Manufacturing in 1997, the Amana major appliance and commercial microwave business was sold to Maytag Corporation in 2001.
The brand’s recognition and quality hold true today under the leadership of Whirlpool Corporation, which acquired the brand as part of the Maytag acquisition in 2006.
So… Maytag gobbled up Goodman, who had previously gobbled up Raytheon, who had previously gobbled up Amana, and then Maytag was gobbled up by Whirlpool. So the little fish keep getting eaten by the bigger fish. Maytag was a big fish but a bigger one come along and the brand is now owned by Whirlpool.
What’s The Difference Between Whirlpool And Amana?
The main difference between the two is that they target different markets. The Amana brand is designed to be more budget-friendly and only creates specific appliances whereas Whirlpool has a wide range of different markets it is into.
But… this is generally speaking because under the Amana umbrella Whirlpool is still releasing some brand new innovations and new types of technologically advanced appliances. But as a rule of thumb Amana is more for the entry-level type market.
Is Amana As Good As Whirlpool?
The products in many cases even look very similar and will have the same quality just that Amana may not have all the bells and whistles of their more expensive counterparts.
In fact, many people can not distinguish between the two. Many of Amana’s products look exactly the same as Whirlpool’s products. After all, they are made by the same manufacturer.
The end result is that with Amana you will get a cheaper product that is made of the same quality as Whirlpool. You just may be missing a few different functions that are usually not overly important anyway.
Does Amana Still Make Appliances?
Yes, while they are now a subsidiary of Whirlpool appliances are still produced under this brand name. They still make their popular appliances, including refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, and dryers.

Amana is currently one of Whirlpool’s top-selling brand of refrigerators, with double-digit percentage growth over the last three years.
They are offering an extensive line of Energy Star-qualified refrigerator options with features including full-width door shelving, spill-proof shelving, door-in-door storage, and Energy Star qualified refrigeration systems.
So… Amana and Whirlpool fridges are both made by the Whirlpool Corporation. Whirlpool owns a number of different companies that make appliances, all under different brand names.
In summary, so… what company makes Amana appliances? Whirlpool is now the owner of the brand.
Amana and Whirlpool are the same but different. I know that’s a strange thing to say but they are the same as far as being owned by the same company is concerned but they are different in style and for the markets they target.
All in all, despite Amana being acquired by numerous companies it has maintained its separate identity within the variety of parent companies who have owned it. That is because Amana appliances a very popular.
It’s like different flavors of ice cream. Chocolate, vanilla, etc. Just because a different owner takes over the ice cream shop it doesn’t mean the flavors change. Sure, the new company puts its stamp on things, and differences are made but the chocolate remains chocolate and the vanilla remains vanilla.
So too with the Amana appliance brand, Whirlpool has continued using the same flavor so that it remains Amana.
